Our new pandemic way of life. Focus on you. The rest might be too big.
Sadly, we are now entering the retail and restaurant wreckage part of the pandemic. Are you ready to slow down shopping at Amazon? Amazon will be okay for a while! Please support small business.
The whole world has undergone vast changes since mid-March. It's really hard to comprehend. I won't try to sum it up. Impossible. Based on the news, social media, government restrictions, and personal interactions, it is clear we each, individually, have our own summaries and personal impacts of what has transpired. We must each figure out what today means and what tomorrow means. We must each figure out what our actions will be going forward. At a time when everything normal was taken away from us abruptly, we must find inner strength going forward to support our own health, home, family, and community.
I am just gonna say it. I feel nervous for all restaurants and fitness facilities hoping to survive this pandemic. I feel nervous for all small business, truly. The odds are not in our favor. I went for my first dining in-restaurant recently and left depressed. Yes, the staff was happy to be working in the cautious and limited capacity, so that was good. But the experience left me wondering how any restaurants will survive amidst virus fear and limited capacity. The whole time, I didn't know which hand to drink with, eat with, touch my phone with, and whether to have my mask on or off. I worried about each conversation (masked both ways) with restaurant staff. It was all too much for me in this coronavirus society that we now live in. I will continue to support as best I can. I'm sure I will feel better about outside dining and beer drinking. As for exercise, I have cancelled my gym and yoga memberships. Sad for this body. I am just not ready to exercise indoors with other people. Prior to this, I was actually having a good exercise year. I was loving my yoga studio and my fitness gym, equally. I was finally doing some good things for my body and mind. Now, it's back to the home gym in the basement, of which I am very good at ignoring its existence, and choosing instead to walk outdoors. I've never walked for exercise before. I like it enough to be proud of myself for logging 2-4 miles when I go out.
I know in my own world it has been hard to piece together the plausible gains and losses from all of this. For the first 6 weeks of social isolation, I feared my biggest loss would be my small physical therapy practice. Now, that I have been back working on a modified and limited schedule, I have a little less fear. Low income is better than no income. But, I don't have any way to know whether my clients will continue to come in and feel safe doing so. I may be faced with some major financial decisions over the next year. But for now, in my small world, I am good.
We are now officially in the RETAIL WRECK part of the pandemic. Malls will close. Boutique shops will close. Fitness facilities will close. I admit it. Personally, I have spent too much money with Amazon over the past few months. It disturbs me. So far, for nothing fun. Hand sanitizers, face masks, toilet paper, disinfecting wipes, tissues, paper towels, exam gloves, vitamins & supplements. I look back at my orders and am left thinking how sad my existence has become. And, yes, I still have things ordered that are not projected for delivery until late July. It is always a surprise what will show up on any given day. Talk about a company that wins in all of this, it's Amazon. So I have been researching other alternatives for shopping. I am hoping to provide you with this same information as I find it. I will supply you with discounts and promotions if I can. I can't wait to find some new and cute summer sandals and walking shoes. Here is what I have so far. Please also check out my current discounts blog where I will provide discount codes, etc. Happy Shopping!!! Stay safe and healthy!!!
